of
tqg P. O. BOX 1108
F, MASHPEE, MA 02649
PLANNING BOARD MINUTES : 5115185 P, 6
Hannah Averett : Nhy can't they add on to the library.
.r, urphy The heai rngs at handr are of the p roposed C-1 zone , A town
. ji .
meeting voted 2 years ago not to proceed with an extention of our
current library . They voted to have a library building committee and
it was subsequently decided to proceed to town meeting with a site that
would be in this general area . Town meeting last year accepted this site
Top 1ho library site rather than the location across the street . There
is no cost to the town in connection with this site as a matter of fact
the original architectural plans were designed for this site ,
or . Dubin: The other piece of land to be deeded to the town. Do you
know what the proposed use for that is?
Mr. Eurphy: This land will be kept in an undeveloped state . it is the
intention of the Selectmen to preserve the aesthetics of the municipal
complex and there was ennoern of what could occur, and for that reason
the Board was interested in acquiring the 4 acre parcel to remain in an
undeveloped state and we fully expect that it will be in the deed ,
Gentleman in the audience : Who did he say would retain ownership of the
land opposite the library - the common.
?sir. 11v-
jur-phy - This common would be built _by Fields Point Corporation and
retained by the Corporation along with associated maintenance of it .
The Board of Selectmen are not referring to it as a town common but it
is open space to be used by the developer and the town at large .
Gentleman in the audience : What about on the other side of the road?
or. burphy: This is proposed purchase by the Diocese of Fall River in
connection with a church , with a hall and rectory. The town has not been
involved directly with this part of this ,
Gentleman: That is not part of this at all?
Kr. Nurphy: No other than what the overall concept of what it will look
like . But the town has not been involved in that .
Keorge Benway; - if this does go through , it 's pretty exciting but it
will obviously turn into be the municipal hub of Hashpee - Police , Fire ,
! Vbrary, etc . Is there any provision or anything that might be an area
for a town hall in the year 2010 or whenever ?
ivra a,4urphy: Well I think that certainly before the town meeting this
year will be the formation of a building needs and study committee .
