By forming <br /> a committee and considering a new seal, the board would be following the spirit and intent of such <br /> direction. <br /> Cons: According to Town Counsel, Article 32 of the May, 2019 Town Meeting was directory in nature, <br /> rather than mandatory.Therefore,the Board could decide to take no action. <br /> Recommendation: The Board of Selectmen establish an ad hoc advisory committee for the purpose of <br /> preparing a recommendation for a new town seal.Such committee would consist of one Selectman,who <br /> would act as Chair. other committee members would include Administrative Assistant Terrie Cook, who <br /> would also perform the duties of recording secretary for the committee. Additional members would <br /> include:Town Planner Evan Lehrer,Library Director Kathy Mahoney,School Superintendent Patty DeBoer, <br /> Historical Commission member Joan Tavares"Avant and a Tribal Council designee to be determined by the <br /> Mashpee wampanoag Tribal Council.The committee would plan, review, design and recommend a draft <br /> town seal to be presented to the Board of Selectmen. A proposed town seal accepted by the Board of <br /> Selectmen would subsequently be brought before Town Meeting for adoption. <br />
