In the areas we currently
® t&} fl serve,utthties don t have exclusive terutoiies.We were on
t the verge of losing potential new customers that we felt
} ` f could have been ours."
41y ` To serve the subdivisions that were springing up
r i i throughout western Mobile County,SAIJ was encouraged
< to get into the wastewater business by local developer
j t 3 s au Steve Brewer,a partner in Brewer PIonnes with his son,
Eric.Steve learned about affordable,envhonmentally-
P tav sound Decentralized wastewater Treatment(DWT)
technologies as he talked to builders around the country
in his role as one of the directors of the National
o o fllc l r I Association of Home Builders.
fi l K'
"We were having such a difficult time finding land where
we could install conventional septic systems,"says Steve.
v "I kept asking other builders if there were alternatives.
,...
And it tarns out there were."Subsequently,Steve found
a technical ally in Di Kevin White,a professor of civil
engineering at the University of South Alabama and a
vocal proponent of utility-managed DWT.
In just a few short years,SAC has built a growing network
of utility-managed DWT systems...one that is fast
w becoming a national model Its nine DWT Facilities will,a
full build-out,have the capacity to handle half a million
gallons of wastewater per day. That's enough capacity to
yr at` serve about 2,000 new homes,at peak design flows.
Currently there are 15 utility-maintained decentralized
wastewater treatment systems in the Mobile,Alabama area.
South Alabama utilities maintains nine at them.
ACS-SL-10
2006 C.—Systems®Inc.
