27
Fire Department Report
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Town of Mashpee, Massachusetts
I hereby submit my report for the year ending December
31, 1960.
Brush Fires 8
Car Fires 1
House Fires 10
Dump Fires 10
Boat Fires 1
First Aid and Rescue it
Reports of fires investigated 8
The condition of the equipment is as follows:
Engine #1 and #2 are in good condition, but the 613 brush
breaker needs repairs. The fire alarm siren has burned out
twice and is not dependable. The station radio is obsolete
and needs replacing.
There -are a few who feel that a fire department is
unnecessary and do nothing, but it is usually the same ones
who when in trouble themselves think the best equipment
is not enough.
We try to keep three trucks in first class condition and
properly equipped, but it seems we are not making any
head -way as the cost of necessary items are beyond our means.
We do not expect to have the equipment and to operate
as the larger towns, but we must remember, we can have
fires just as serious as any town especially in the wooded
areas.
It seems a good many have forgotten May 8, 1957, it could
happen again, and I feel it will.
It is up to the public; will we be prepared or not.
Respectfully submitted,
ELLSWORTH PETERS
Fire Chief
