29
Deport of the Forest Warden
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
I hereby submit my report for the year ending December
31, 1960 .
We were fortunate the past year by not having any serious
forest fires although nearly all could have been.
The town of Falmouth Fire Dept. has realized the danger
of a forest fire East and Northeast of .the Waqouit area and
has cut a fire line along the town boundary line extending
from the bound stone on Childs river west of Milford Road
to Old Barnstable Road,,a distance of nearly one mile, which
will be a great help in case .of a fire -coming from the west
which they usually do.
I hope to start soon and cut a line from Milford Road
running east to the Quashnet River :a distance of about a
mile along the Falmouth Mashpee boundary line.
Due to the lack of roads and the number of fires in this
heavy wooded area, it should be completed as soon as possible.
The assistance rendered by the Department of Conser-
vation Fire Patrol truck has ,been very helpful in keeping the
number of fires down in Mashpee and the majority of the
public has co-operated in every way.
Respectfully submitted,
ELLSWORTH PETERS
Forest Warden
