26
Fire Department Report
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Mashpee, Massachusetts
Gentlemen:
There were sixty-three calls for assistance during the
year.
Brush Fires
iq
House Fires
14
Dump Fires
19
Reports of Fires investigated
4
Rescue Calls
9
At this time all the trucks and equipment are in good
condition. We do not have enough hose on one truck, but I
have asked for a slight increase in hose replacement account
so as to have all trucks fully equipped.
I would like .the taxpayers to know I have asked for alter-
ations to the fire station so that all equipment can be housed
and in service. During the winter we have to drain the
tanks and pumps of two trucks to prevent freezing, and re-
move all cotton jacket hose to prevent rotting and it would
take not less than thirty minutes to put these trucks in
service which is too long a delay to be of any use at a build-
ing fire. It would cost the Town Thirty Thousand Dollars
($30,000.00) to replace one truck that is standing outdoors.
This truck may be a bit old but it runs very good.
I hope the public can remedy this situation as it has
existed as far back as 1958, and I haven't been able to cor-
rect it. We have all the trucks we need at this time but if
we don't protect them from the weather they will be use-
less in a short time.
I
i
