34
Report of the Veterans' Agent
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Mashpee, Massachusetts
Dear Sirs:
The following is a report of the Department of Veterans'
Services for the calendar year 1962.
When submitting a budget for Veterans' Benefits, the
agent must of necessity anticipate, as far as possible, the
needs of a community under this program for the coming
Year. When arriving at a recommended amount for a bud-
get, it is impossible to anticipate unforeseen expenditures
particularly hospital and medical expenditures.
The older veterans and their dependents, as is to be
expected, require more medical expense as the years go by.
Whenever possible, every effort is made to place veterans
in government hospitals, which results in a financial assist to
the Mashpee taxpayers. Dependents of veterans are not
eligible for government assistance as to hospital care. Vet-
erans who have non -service disabilities are not eligible for
medical care at home, and only VA hospitals, when beds are
available. and other requirements are met.
The only permanent recipients at present are World War
I veterans, their widows, and parents of World War II vet-
erans. The veterans of Mashpee should be very proud of
their employment record. As previously reported, and with
pride, percentage wise they rank high in the Commonwealth.
The citizens of Mashpee should also share in this pride
which is the result of the veterans' industrious efforts.
The total expenditures for Veterans' Benefits for 1962
were $3,449.16. Of this amount 50% will be reimbursed to the
Town of Mashpee by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
