ill
Report of the Superintendent of Schools
To the School Committee and The
Citizens of the Town of Mashpee
Mr. Wilfred H. Graves ably served the Town of Mash -
pee as educational leader for many years. In the late
spring of 1963, he retired and I became your Superintendent.
It is with pleasure that I submit this, my first annual re-
port to the Citizens of Mashpee.
Anticipating .an increase in enrollment as of September,
1963, two additional elementary teachers, namely, Mrs.
Elaine Harvey and Mrs. Mary Newbern were added to the
faculty of the Samuel G. Davis School. With the addition
of two new teachers, it also meant the full utilization of
all eight classrooms in the school and no place for the
Remedial Adjustment class. A study was conducted and a
recommendation made to the School Committee by the
Superintendent of Schools to convert the manual training
room in the basement of the school into a classroom. With
the installation of an asphalt tile floor, new window shades,
new desks, a new gas stove and freshly painted walls, the
room was completely renovated and refurbished in time for
the opening -of school in September. This room is now used
by the Remedial Adjustment class each day with the ex-
ception of Thursday when the pupils are integrated into
the regular school program and the room is used for do-
mestic science purposes.
A place was created in the basement recreation area
for the manual training class. New benches and tools were
purchased to expand the program under the direction of
Mr, George Green.
