25
Report of the Board of Health
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and
the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee
The Board of Health hereby submits their annual report
for the year, nineteen -hundred -sixty-four. During the past
year the board has met weekly, but we find that the work
has doubled, due to the tremendous growth within the town
and the vast amount of building, and one night is insufficient
to complete the hearings and duties of the board. A great
amount of the work load has to be accomplished during the
week.
The usual inspections were made on buildings, restau-
rants, motels, camps and other establishments, including
swimming pools, and cesspools. Rules and regulations gov-
erning sanitation have been drafted, which will be approved
and enforced by the Board in the ensuing year.
The nurse has served the Town for the year by conduct-
ing clinics, examinations, house calls, assistance to the dental
clinics and dentist and supplying transportation. Complete
details are explained in the nurse's report.
We wish to thank Dr. Gwendolyn W. Crawford for her
co-operation with the dental clinic this past year and hope
she will continue to serve the board in this capacity. Due
to the inadequate facilities at the school this year, we were
forced to transport the children to the dentist's office.
We are grateful beyond words for the gift of a complete
dental set-up from Dr. Frederick R. Raddin of Orleans, Mass.
This equipment has been installed in the S. G. Davis School
and will enable us to carry out our dental clinic at the school
in 1965. Our disposal area has been a handicap as usual. The
question is—What do you do with trash? At home if the cel-
lar is cluttered, you take it to the disposal area. If the trash
barrel is overflowing, you take it to the disposal area. Now
the question is—What do we do with the disposal area when
it is overflowing? Bury it, or burn it?
