Signs on trees, etc. Except for signs warning of danger <br /> or prohibiting trespass or the like, no sign shall be painted on <br /> or affixed to any tree, fence, utility pole, rock or ledge, nor <br /> painted or posted on any wall without an intermediary re- <br /> movable surface. <br /> 4. Neon signs. Except in Business or Light Industrial Dis- <br /> tricts, no sign shall include any neon or other electroexcited <br /> gas filled tubing illumination. <br /> 5. Certain roof signs. No sign shall be erected on any roof <br /> so as to project above or beyond the roof line of the building <br /> on which it is erected. No sign shall be painted on any roof <br /> surface so as to be visible from the ground. However, where <br /> the space between the tops of store windows and the roof line <br /> is insufficient for a wall sign extending across the face of <br /> the building to contain the area authorized by paragraph F <br /> below, without, projecting above the roof line, such sign may <br /> be permitted to extend above the roof line sufficiently to ob- <br /> tahl such authorized maximum area. <br /> 6. Billboards, as defined herein. <br /> 7. Off-premises signs, in other than Business or Light <br /> Industrial Districts, except as authorized by the Board of <br /> Appeals in accordance with the provisions of Section 27-1. No <br /> Off-Premises sign shall be permitted which would be in viola- <br /> tion of Section 29-33 of Chapter 93 of the General Laws. <br /> 8. Private signs on Town property, authorization shall <br /> be given until after a duly advertised public hearing; any <br /> such signs shall conform.in all respects to all other provisions <br /> of this section. Permits for such signs may be revoked at any <br /> time unless a permit for such a sign is authorized by the <br /> ]Board of Selectmen. <br /> E. Ikon-Conforming Signs <br /> Signs which, at the time of the effective date of this <br /> Article,had been previously legally erected, but which exceed <br /> the maximum area provisions of this section, may be per- <br /> mitted for the life of such signs, however, signs which are In <br /> violation of the prohibitions in Paragraph D of this section <br /> shall be modified so as to terminate such violation within one <br /> Year from such effective date. <br />
