54
'► Report of the
Municipal Building Needs Committee
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
of the Town of Mashpee
' This committee has concluded its meetings, of which
nineteen were held; its hearings with the Board of Select-
men, the Chief of the Police Department, the Chief of the
Fire Department, the Superintendent of Schools, the Princi-
pal of the Samuel G. Davis Elementary School, the Surveyor
of Highways and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of
the Public Library; the committee's own private meetings
a and one field trip.
" One guiding principle, to which all members of the com-
mittee gave their earnest attention, was to separate NEEDS
from DESIRES.
A priority was established based on the urgency and
severity of the needs and a majority vote of the committee
establishes the need for new facilities in the following order:
1. A new and badly needed Police Station
2. A new Fire Station
3. A new Town Hall with facilities for all Town
Departments normally housed in such a
building
Comments on other departments of the Town will be
stated further ,on in this report.
At the last formal meeting of the committee, after long
and careful consideration, it was voted that while the prior-
ities stated on this page are valid and accurate, the needs of
the Town are such that this group feels it to be in the best
interest of the Town to have the voters treat all three
priorities as one and that any and all favorable action in-
clude, without prejudice, the first three priorities so stated.
To put it simply, the committee feels that the Town needs,
in the immediate future, a new and adequate Police Station,
a new Fire Station and a new Town Hall and we respect-
fully request the Board of Selectmen and the voters of the
f j Town to treat the three needs as one and to make a package
of the plans and financing for the top three priorities.
