Campbell, Superintendent of Schools, 9 The School Committee and the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee: Herewith is the annual report of the school nurse. We began the year with an outbreak of mumps and } chicken-pox with scattered cases continuing to the end of the school year in June. Physical examinations were done by Dr. Paul Jaques on children in grades one and five. No serious defects were found. Booster immunizations for diphtheria, tetanus and polio, as well as the Tine test for tuberculosis were given to grade one pupils. On the recommendation of the Massachusetts Department of Health booster shots for fifth graders were discontinued. In February, Mrs. Alice Dazell, County Dental Hygienist, did a dental survey on all school children. The Board of Health appointed Dr. Robert Riley of Osterville as school dentist and adopted a new policy — parents are to make the appointments and furnish the transportation for their chil- dren's visits to the dentist. Also appointed by the Board of Health was Dr. Hutchins Inge, our new school physician. Hearing and vision tests were done in all grades. With considerable help from the Barnstable County Health Dept., a hearing aid and speech therapy was provided for one of our children. ''6 The girls in grades four, five and six were shown the (, film "It's Wonderful Being a Girl," followed by discussions on good grooming and personal hygiene. We have made use of the services and help available at the Mental Health Center in Pocasset. The year has passed swiftly.
