52 <br /> Annual Report of the Park <br /> I {� and Recreation Commission <br /> rJ <br /> `t <br /> 4 To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and <br /> Citizens of the Town of Mashpee, Mass. <br /> h Beginning the year nineteen hundred and seventy, the <br /> Town Hall was used for volley-ball, basketball, and roller- <br /> skating by both children and adults. <br /> Mashpee entered two basketball teams in the Cape Cod <br /> i <br /> K,iwanis Tournament -as they have yearly. Ronald Pocknett <br /> and Larry Dove were rewarded for their coaching and man- <br /> agement when the Class A Kiwanis Basketball Champion- <br /> ship was won by the following youths: Donald Hicks, Jr., <br /> Eric Aimedia, Ralph and Peter Hendricks, Robert Maxim, <br /> Dwight Peters, Michael Mahoney, and Walter Santos. Each <br /> of these boys received a trophy at a Banquet, held at the <br /> Sheraton Inn in Hyannis. The younger boys 12-16 while <br /> not winning, played in the finals. <br /> I ',I Our young men entered the Falmouth Men's Softball <br /> League. They won a trophy for second place. These awards <br /> are outstanding considering we do not have regulation fields <br /> or basketball courts. <br /> Nineteen hundred and seventy marked the first summer <br /> we have employed Lifeguards and Beach Attendants at South <br /> Cape Beach and Attaquin Park. Sanitary facilities and tele- <br /> phone have been provided at Attaquin Park. The Commission <br /> requests the same facilities for -South Cape Beach this year. <br /> The amount of $1,878.00 was realized from beach receipts. <br /> i• Here we would like to mention the Annual Indian Pow- <br /> wow held every summer and attended by thousands of.people. <br /> The Commission commends Mrs. Ferdinand Mills for her <br /> leadership and devotion to this event. <br /> This Commission gratefully acknowledges the help of <br /> the following people who contributed to the success of The <br /> Mashpee Centennial Celebration: Warren Hicks, Frederick <br /> Pocknett, Vincent Lopez, Amelia Bingham and Carol Lopez. <br />
