Campbell, Superintendent
School Committee and Citizens of the
Town of Mashpee:
The annual report of the Samuel G. Davis School is here-
with submitted by the principal:
Enrollment -
Enrollment Grades K-12 1966-71
Membership October ist of each year
Senior
` Year No. Pupils Grade Jr. High High Total
I 1966 162 K-6 37 56 255
1967 221 K-6 46 62 327
1968 220 K-6 46 75 341
1969 209 K-6 53 68 330
II 1970 220 K-6 46 84 350
1971 222 K-6 58 80 360
i ..
During the years 1960-1970 federally connected children
i (parents of whom were either servicemen at Otis Air Force
Base or worked there) made up from ten to forty per cent
x
of our school enrollment.
`i In 1960 it became necessary to double the size of our
school plant.
G In 1965 the school department tuitioned our seventh and
eighth grades to Barnstable Junior High School in order to
make classrooms available and to provide a better educa-
tional opportunity for our junior high school youth.
i In 1969 Otis Air Force Base began to "phase out", (slow
r a; down operations).
Most of the personnel at Otis AFB were transferred to
other bases. Normally, this would mean a loss of pupils in
our school system. The loss took place; however, the rapid
building program in the Town of Mashpee over the past ten
years and the flow of families moving from the cities made
iI
up for the loss.
,I
