A7
3. Encourages the development of good sportsmanship
through games this developing character and better
citizenship.
4. Requirements necessary for completing requirements
for the President's Council for Physical Fitness Awards.
5. Desirable attitudes he hopes will increase the pupil's
strength, endurance, agility, flexibility and capacity
to meet the physical demands of today and tomorrow.
TEACHER AIDES
This is the second year teacher aides have been a part
of our teaching staff. Teacher aides have been used in some
schools since the late 1950's. Originally used to provide a
remedy for a shortage of teachers even though that shortage
today no longer exists, teacher aides have proven successful
in freeing the teacher to teach — and have helped teachers
overcome the disadvantages of overcrowded classrooms.
Our school can boast of three excellent aides in Mrs.
Eunice McIlwaine, Mrs. Jane Murray and Mrs. Irene Thorpe.
Teacher aides are used to assist with clerical duties, that
are often time consuming to the teacher, (collecting lunch
money, picture money, etc.); they may help in checking work-
books, correcting papers, recording marks, preparing dupli-
cating materials, operating visual aid machines, arranging
bulletin boards. They may help to supervise playground play
and arrange all details necessary for field trips.
Our teacher aides are recommended to the school com-
mittee. They are carefully screened to determine that they
are of high moral character, are intelligent, are at least high
school graduates, and are cooperative and friendly toward
children..
PARENT-TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
The Mashpee P.T.A. continued this year under the able
leadership of Mrs. Priscilla Rollins and Mrs. Elizabeth Dumas.
Without a doubt, our P.T.A. is the finest on Cape Cod. Pro-
grams were diversified and well attended.
Programs of interest were:
1. A scholarship program for worthy high school gradu-
ates.
