las
Deport of the School Nurse
To: Mr. Clayton E. Campbell, Supt. of Schools,
The School Committee and Citizens of the
Town of Mashpee:
Herewith is the annual report of the school nurse.
Mrs. Alice Dalzeil, County Dental Hygienist did a dental
survey on all pupils, instructing and counseling as necessary.
As usual reports were sent home with each child. The Mash-
pee Board of Health provided for needed dental care to those
requesting it. Dr. Robert Riley of Osterville is the school
dentist.
Immunization clinics under the direction of Dr. Hutchins
Inge were held. Booster shots for diphtheria-tetanus and for
polio were available to first grade pupils. Tine tests also were
administered. The annual series of clinics for pre-school
children in charge of Mrs. Nerbonne, Public Health Nurse,
were well attended.
September and with the start of another school year
came physical exams by Dr. Inge in grades one and five.
Also checked were students new to our school.
Vision and hearing.tests were completed and when neces-
sary notices sent home.
Almost from the very start of school in September ,colds
and ear infections were prevalent, becoming more evident by
December. It was felt that the very mild and extended Fall
weather was a contributing factor.
I am much concerned about the number of children com-
ing to.the Health Room complaining of "feeling bad" or "very
tired" or "may I lie down for a while" only to find they have
watched a late T.V. show or even a late movie. Not only are
these children physically exhausted, but emotionally as well,
resulting in poor work and behavior.
We have two new additions to the Health Room a
phone 477-0550 and a refrigerator, which was presented the
school by the Woman's Club of New Seabury. Both are a
great convenience and much appreciated.
I wish to thank everyone for the help and co-operation
given me.
Respectfully submitted,
ANNA E. CAMPBELL, R.N., School Nurse
