i
56
Report of the Park and Recreation Commission
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen and
I
Citizens of the Town of Mashpee, Mass.
It gives the Park & Recreation -Commissioners great
pleasure to report that Mashpee entered three teams in the
Cape Cod Kiwanis Tournament as they have yearly. They
weren't able to get into the finals of the softball tournament
games, but they did an excellent job. Coaches were Ronald
Pocknett, Elmer W. Hendricks, Jr. and Larry E. Dove.
For the first time in Mashpee's history we had a Little
League Team which won four games and lost three. We feel
that this was outstanding fora first year team that never
played together before. The Little League Team was taken
on a trip to Fenway Park in Boston to see the Red Sox play;
also the treated at
Y were d to an outing on Martha Vineyard
s
for a tour. At the end of the season a cookout in their honor
was held at the town hall. The cookout, held on the ball
field, was sponsored by the Recreation Commission and the
Mashpee Rod and Gun Club.
The Mashpee women had a soft ball team for the first
time which was sponsored by the Mashpee Fire and Police
Departments. All games were played in the Barnstable
League.
The Men's Softball Team came in second place in the
Falmouth League for the second year in a row, and made
the semi-finals in the soft ball tournament held at West
Barnstable.
We are pleased to report that the baseball field is almost
completed except for a dugout and a chain link fence which
we -are hoping will be installed this spring. We are most
grateful for the layout of the baseball field which was done
by Mr. Francisco Tavares of Falmouth. $2,308.00 was collected
from parking fees at Attaquin Park Beach and South Cape
Beaches.
