I
i
47
l'
Mashpee. The Falmouth Historical Society was the ,first to offer
a priceless document, namely, "THE MAR)SHPEE DAY BOOK."
This book records the activities at the reservation store from 1793-
1820. This treasure was located among the properties of an Old
Falmouth Sea Captain. Mr. Cahoon of Santuit, donated a docu-
ment that was also dated 1793; recording the moving of the Mash-
pee Barnstable Town Line. There are many other persons and or-
ganizations that have contributed to the Indian collection for the
museum. Too numerous to list at this time.
The Mashpee Historical Commission participated in four ma-
jor events during 1972, with the aid of all those interested enough
to offer their morale, physical, and financial support. These people
enabled us to present our priceless exhibit for the general public to
see. In April, our exhibit won BEST IN SHOW, at the CAPE
COD EXPO 1972, sponsored by the Hyannis Rotary. For the
first time, our exhibit was presented at the ANNUAL INDIAN
POW-WOW, in the Mashpee Library during July 1972. This af-
fair is similar to a Homecoming, and everyone that saw the show
was delighted. Especially with the pictures of the Oldtimers of
Mashpee and of the Centennial Activities.
At the ANNUAL BARNSTABLE COUNTY FAIR, our ex-
hibit won the coveted SILVER BOWL AWARD, presented by the
Cape Cod Standard Times, as the first prize. This July event at-
tracted approximately 100,000 people. As a result, it was our
honor and pleasure to be invited by the BOSTON GLOBE FESTI-
VAL committee, to be a feature exhibit during the three day activi-
ties, at the John Hynes Auditorium, in Boston October 1972.
May we acknowledge the following sponsors that contributed
to the exhibit and expenses relative to moving the show to Boston i
for the three days. Otis Air Force Base personnel, (volunteers),
Sandwich Cooperative Bank, The Bass River Savings Bank, Doane,
Beal, and Ames, Inc.; Cape Cod Standard Times, and last but not
least, Mrs. Selena Coombs. We thank you one and all for rising
to the occasion.
ON BEHALF OF THE TOWN OF MASHPEE, we wish to
THANK AND EXTEND OUR APPRECIATION TO THE
VOLUNTEER OTIS AIR FORCE BASE PERSONNEL; for ac-
complishing a job which was labeled IMPOSSIBLE, with their
labor of love. They saw the need for help and the challenge; so
donated unselfishly, their free time and efforts, in all kinds of wea-
