55 <br /> I <br /> Report of the Veterans' Agent <br /> and Director of Veterans' Services <br /> District Board: <br /> E. Thomas Murphy, Barnstable, Chrmn. <br /> Carl Hiler, Sandwich <br /> Howard Marchant, Yarmouth <br /> David Lane, Dennis <br /> Kevin O'Connell, Mashpee <br /> I hereby submit my annual report of the District Department <br /> of Veterans Services. <br /> For the Town of Mashpee, this Department spent $13,550.79 <br /> on Veterans Benefits which includes ordinary living expenses, <br /> r <br /> medical and Nursing Homes. A total of 39 cases were aided. <br /> Besides aiding veterans and their dependents in a financial <br /> manner, this department shall assist them in furnishing such infor- <br /> mation, advice and assistance to enable them to procure the bene- <br /> fits to which they may be entitled relative to employment, voca- <br /> tional or other educational opportunities, hospitalization, medical <br /> care, pensions and other veterans benefits. A total of 5,716 people <br /> availed themselves of our services during 1972; also this office <br /> handled 4,886 incoming telephone calls. <br /> Included in this report is a report from the Investigator, Sidney <br /> L. Chase, as follows: <br /> As the District's Investigator, my primary job is to make <br /> regular reports on all cases on Veterans Benefits. Semi-annual <br /> reports on all permanent cases and monthly visits on all tempo- <br /> rary cases are made. For the calendar year 1972, I made 29 home <br /> visits, 5 permanent cases and 24 temporary cases. <br /> Secondly, I assist Mr. Cross with Veterans Service work for <br /> all eligible veterans. Also, any other daily problems that occur <br /> within the Veterans Service Office. <br /> The Department wishes to thank the Boards of Selectmen and <br /> their various Town Departments for their splendid cooperation <br /> throughout the year. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> CHARLES H.
