i <br /> 34 <br /> Report of the Chief of Police <br /> To The Honorable Board of Selectmen and <br /> j Citizens of the Town of Mashpee <br /> t <br />` ( With pleasure, we report that there were no violent <br /> crimes in Town in 1973 as there were none in 1972. A con- <br /> densed comparison of the criminal violations and incidents in <br /> the last two years follows: <br /> 1 BURGLARY (Breaking & Entering): An estimate of the <br /> value of items stolen was $46,986.13, a decrease from 1972 <br /> though the number of B & E's increased. Of the property <br /> stolen, $11,765.00 was recovered. <br /> BURGLAR ALARMS: We continue to recommend alarms <br /> as a deterrent. There are 32 terminating in the station, one <br /> which was set off during an unauthorized entry was instru- <br /> mental in apprehending the culprit. <br /> POLICE EDUCATION: The Deputy Chief successfully <br /> completed the Advance Course at Babson Institute. The two <br /> Sergeants completed the Basic Course at the same Institute. <br /> ARRESTS: There were 145 arrests which was a decrease <br /> in the previous year, however, for being incapacitated 53 per- <br /> sons were placed in protective custody in accordance with a <br /> 1 Jul 73 General Law. The total of 198 exceeded the 1972 <br /> statistic.
