123 <br /> Report of the Council on Aging <br /> To the Honorable Board of Selectmen <br /> and the Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:. .. <br /> This -committee has met on the first Wednesday of the <br /> month throughout the year. This year ewe have setup a <br /> health program for Flu Shots and 58 were given, and a <br /> monthly blood pressure check-up on the 3rd Monday of <br /> the month at the Town Hall through the services of the <br /> Falmouth Nursing Association. <br /> The Nutrition Program has enlarged enough so that now <br /> lunch is served in Mashpee. Presently at the Mashpee Bap- <br /> tist Church facilities, approximately twenty-five hot lunches <br /> are served daily. Mrs. Shirley Peters is in charge of the <br /> nutrition program with Mrs. Aurie Avant as Aide. <br /> Our Building Committee consisting of Marion Griffin, <br /> Mial Folkins and John Williams;was able to locate a suitable <br /> surplus building on Otis Air Force Base and obtained it <br /> from the Federal Government. The Committee hopes to <br /> have it on the ground site by May. <br /> Mr. Williams, a retired architect, has drawn all the site <br /> and building plans and donated his services to us. This <br /> Center will be located on six acres of land on Great Neck <br /> Road near Old Barnstable Road. Much time and effort has <br /> gone into this major project. <br /> Mial Folkin of our Council is district representative of <br /> CIRCA, (Cape & Islands Regional Council on Aging) Region <br /> 1. This Region includes Bourne, Sandwich, Falmouth and <br /> Mashpee. <br /> The Mashpee Senior Citizens Club under the guidance <br /> of John Hazzard, president, has been most successful and <br /> has grown to approximately 165 members. The Club ran a <br /> most successful Harvest Dance the week before Thanksgiving <br /> for the building fund together with raffle items donated by <br /> local merchants and other friends. <br /> A letter was sent to all residents of Mashpee, fifty-five <br /> years of age and over, inviting them to join the Mashpee <br /> Senior Citizens Club. <br />
