140 It can be assumed that these appointments were made after due recognition of developments in the museum pre- sentation, implementation, interpretation of the exhibits and our ability to function and produce in spite of constant hardships and lack of adequate funds with which to operate. A first rate Teachers' Kit "THE INDIANS THAT MET THE PILGRIMS" has been developed by several Wampanoag people in cooperation with the Boston Children's Museum, . featuring local Indian culture and history as well as The MASHPEE WAMPANOAG INDIAN MUSEUM, for college students, elementary school teachers and their students. Not j only is the museum receiving the benefit of nationwide ex- posure, but affords our people deserving credit for their contributions to the American way of life. We are making available resource information from Indian people for the educational systems of America. The packaging and pro- motional work for this kit is being done by American Sci- ence and Engineering Company, in Boston, Mass., and is presently being used abroad in American schools as well as our schools here in the U.S.A. One of these kits has been donated to the Samuel G. Davis School by the director who participated in this program for developing the Wampanoag Indian Teachers' Kit. Another museum project was the designing and acqui- sition of funds for printing the WELCOME TO MASHPEE brochure, which was produced thru the efforts of the De- partment of Commerce and Tourism as a public service at a I i to� cost exceeding $35,000.00 Distribution off Cape Cod was III! handled by that dept. also, with the museum staff assuming the task of distribution locally. The demand for the bro- chure exceeds our supply, and the prospects for funds to re- plenish our supply prior to the tourist season appears doubt- ful at this time. III In spite of all the publicity granted us during 1974- 1975, there appears a threat to the stability and security for continued service at the museum. The necessity to expand is pressing and without more space, reliable personnel and an authentic Indian outdoor exhibit, we cannot expect to service a larger attendance of children and adults wishing to come to our town to ex- perience, see and share our knowledge of our culture with appreciation-for the past.
