93 <br /> Hearings Before <br /> Complaint <br /> to Issue 29 5 0 24 0 0 <br /> Total Number <br /> of Trials 191 16 28 129 18 7 <br /> Arraignments <br /> on M.V. <br /> Violations 175 0 4 123 5 0 <br /> 43 of these violations are still pending—mostly due to registry <br /> action given when unable to serve defendants with summons, <br /> also where a new summons has been issued. <br /> 'Of those people arrested or summoned to court in 1974' <br /> one hundred and sixty-two (162) were assigned for trial, <br /> many of these people were charged with multiple offenses.. <br /> In addition to the above, sixty seven (67) bad check <br /> complaints were handled by the Department Prosecutor, <br /> without complaints being issued in court. Bad check defen- <br /> dants that were issued complaints and set for arraignment <br /> or trial numbered twenty five (25) for a total of 92. <br /> It is the duty of the Police Prosecutor to handle and <br /> assist in all court matters involving the Department and <br /> assist the Prosecutor-Attorney in all trials and other mat- <br /> ters involving the Department which includes, signing com- <br /> plaints, taking out all summons and subpoenas, assisting <br /> in issuing search and arrest warrants, arraigning defend- <br /> ants, (motor vehicle or otherwise) handling disposition on <br /> trial basis or at arraignments, getting continuances, attend- <br /> ing hearings on probable cause, making returns to the court, <br /> contacting witnesses and attorneys concerning trials, assist- <br /> ing the public in obtaining complaints that would be signed <br /> by those concerned, responsibility for the court reports and <br /> preparation of necessary papers and .evidence for trials. <br /> The Prosecutor-Attorney has enjoyed a successful year <br /> at court and- received excellent cooperation from the Police <br /> Prosecutor and other officers in-filing complete reports in a <br /> timely manner and being ready when their cases are sched- <br /> uled.
