I
}
REPORT OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
How can crime be reduced? In this present day society with existing
economic conditions, the crime problem is alarming, causing great con-
sternation to law enforcement personnel as it does to citizens who possess
valuables which are within relatively easy reach of these outside of the law.
There is positively no justification for the "Ripoff", but it does occur, as
substantiated by the statistics in this Report.
A Comparison of the last two years depicts a marked increase in the
major crime areas. BURGLARY, the unlawful entry of a structure to com-
mit a felony or a theft, has increased; LARCENY, the felonious stealing of
property of another, has increased; VANDALISM, the willful or malicious
destruction of public or private property and other malicious behavior, has
almost doubled.
The crime problem cannot be solved by pointing the finger at the judicial
system or those who enforce the law. A combined effort must be made by
those responsible to provide new ideas, employment and vigorously attempting
a reduction in crime which will allow us to enjoy the good of society.
APPOINTMENT BY SELECTMEN
Police Department - Police Chief - George G.
