Both federal and state law man- <br /> date that fire and rescue personnel must be trained in the <br /> knowledge of hazardous materials. In this regard, twen- <br /> ty (20) members of the Department completed a com- <br /> prehensive 24-hour program in "Hazardous Materials <br /> Operational Awareness"during the year, making us one <br /> of the first departments in the state to have personnel so <br /> qualified. In addition, one member (F/F Ken Braley) <br /> completed 160 hours of training as a "Hazardous <br /> Materials Technician" and now serves on the Regional <br /> HazMat Response Team that provides service to our <br /> region. <br /> As we serve a growing community with a large popula- <br /> tion of senior citizens, many of our emergency responses <br /> during 1990 were for basic and advanced (paramedic) <br /> medical assistance.To insure that we are prepared to pro- <br /> vide the best in emergency medical care,considerable em- <br /> phasis is placed on medical training. In this regard, <br /> Department personnel put in 704 hours of medical train- <br /> ing during the year. In addition,two members(F/F Craig <br /> Messinger and Call F/F Donna Lopez)completed train- <br /> ing and were certified as paramedics. <br /> The Future <br /> In these times of economic uncertainty, you may rest <br /> assured that your Fire and Rescue Department is doing <br /> everything within its power to provide the best possible <br /> service at minimal cost. The concepts of effectiveness of <br /> operation and efficiency in cost are an integral part of <br /> our operation.
