i
83
ing testing in schools. Since we do not own a set of
either test, we must depend upon borrowing both at
such a time when it is convenient for the owners to lend
it. This does not help our schedule any. In fact, it
j' seems as if everything is never done. We could finish
with either set in two days, and we'd appreciate it early
in the season. A number of children were found to be
in need of referral to an otologist for hearing and an
eye specialist for vision. However, since many of their
parents were financially unable to provide glassess or
hearing treatments, these children have been neglected
j because we simply had no money for either hearing or
vision corrections. We hope a stable health fund will
be created by which these important corrections may
be financed. Three children were seen by Dr. Riemer,
oculist, at Cape Cod Hospital.
Five children had X-rays at Pocasset, but since the
County Health Camp was discontinued, none of the
Mashpee children got away to camp. Several children
have attended orthopedic and other clinics, at which
time transportation was given by the Red Cross, which
never fails us in an emergency.
Dr. Moore had one Well Child Conference in June
with a 70% attendance, for children entering school in
i
the fall. Dr. Moore also gave valuable time for medical
examinations in the school. It would seem that the
Mashpee parents' cooperation for a worthwhile project
i
like a Well Child Conference should make a better show-
ing than only 70% attendance.
The hot school lunch continues to serve the health
needs of our children. We wish we could instill in all
people the need to conserve and waste nothing, partic-
ularly food because so many children in the world are
hungry and malnourished.
 I j
