103
.91
.53
,38
,00
00 Report of the Superintendent of Schools
.00
i
x.00
x.00 To the School Committee and Citizens
r.00 of the Town of Mashpee:
.00 My first annual report as Superintendent of Schools was
.00
made for the year 1927 and since I am to resign as of June 1,
06 1956, this will be my last report. Probably the most signifi-
cant event of those years was the construction of the Samuel
G. Davis School. This was made possible because the court
permitted $1,000.00 of the yearly income of the Samuel G.
Davis Fund to be applied to a bond issue, the balance being
allocated from Federal PWA funds. The second most- sig- I`
nificant event for the better during those years, I think, is
the increase in the number of Mashpee children who attend
high school. When I first came to Mashpee, there were but
,.76 one or two high school students, while now we have twenty-
seven. There were no college students at that time. Today
,.9a Y
quite a few of our Mashpee people go to college.
As in many places, the people in Mashpee take pride in
,73 their school. Too often, however, parents takethe school
i9 for granted without keeping in touch with it. Teachers
welcome parents and are happy when they show interest
enough to come to the school to confer about their children's
work. They only wish that parents would come more often,
for the work of the child can then be seen and his accom-
plishment appreciated and his difficulties analyzed and better
understood. There is a file of each child's progress from the
time he enters school to the present. Not only may work
that is done at school be reviewed but the parent can see
what or how the home can help the child to make a success
Of school. ! h'
I r'
i '.
