44
Report of the Veterans' Agent
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Town of Mashpee
Massachusetts
Gentlemen: .
The following is a report of the Department of Veterans'
Services for the Town of Mashpee for the calendar year
1955.
The original appropriation for the year 1955 was $4,500.00,
and the total amount expended was $2,884.59. Of this amount
expended, 50% of this will be reimbursed by the Common-
wealth to the Town of Mashpee.
The employment situation in this area reflects the ex-
penditure of Veterans' Benefits particularly on veterans
who are able to work. The only permanent recipients for
the year were widows and totally disabled World War I
veterans. Other recipients, as in the past, were aided from
time to time due to illness or temporary unemployment.
This also reflects as to the high type of veteran we have in
this Town, for apparently every able-bodied veteran who was
willing to work has found employment.
I was able to secure Federal compensation for two World
War II veterans who were totally disabled. These veterans
were entitled to this compensation, but by receiving it they
will not be a financial burden on the Town.
j
