33
Report of the Shellfish Warden
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen:
I hereby submit my report as Shellfish Warden of the
Town of Mashpee for the year 1958.
Although we had a very poor year on scallops there is an
abundant crop of seed in Waquoit Bay. As for Punk Horn and
Popponesett Bay, the crop is not quite as good and there is a
good set of clam seeds and legal size clams. Quahogs are get-
ting scarce in certain areas and they will continue to be
scarce due to the increased number of permits issued to res-
idents.and tourists. The only way we can overcame this situ-
ation is by planting every year.
Number of Licenses Sold
Resident License 242 @ $1.0.0 $242.00
Non-Resident License 59 @ 2.00 118.00
Commercial License 3 @ 5.00 15.00
Commercial License 7 @ 10.00, 70:00
Total $445.00
May I,bring to the attention of all commercial fishermen
that under Chapter 130 of the General Laws the Director is
required to compile statistical information concerning the
Marine Fisheries of the Commonwealth. A step in this direc-
tion was taken in my letter to all Commercial Fishermen
holders of bed certificates. This, law also requires that all
holders of licenses, permits, or certificates shall make a writ-
ten report of such facts as the Director may deem advisable.
Any person who knowingly or willfully neglects to make the
report hereby required, shall have his certificate suspended
and he shall not receive a new license, certificate, or permit
until such report is made.
Respectfully submitted,
EDWARD S. TAVARES,
Shellfish Warden
