35
Report of the Park Commissioners
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
and Citizens of the Town of Mashpee:
We hereby submit our report for the year ending Decem-
ber 31, 1958.
Additional areas at Attaquin Park were cleared of fallen
trees and protruding stumps. Dead trees were cut down and
removed to the town dump, giving more room for the new
oaks and other shade trees to grow properly.
Poison Ivy was rooted up and destroyed. The picnic
tables and sparking area posts were repainted. The beach was
raked and cleaned at regular intervals and refuse removed
periodically.
The rainy weekends throughout the summer kept the
large visiting crowds to a minimum.
The beach at Seconset is in poor shape. The beach is
small and at high tide is nearly completely under water.
When the tide recedes, deposits of grass often are left be-
hind. It would be a worthy, but a costly, project to raise the
beach and Mill in a part of the swamp across the main -toad
as a parking area. Unless the beach is raised within the next
few years it may wash away entirely.
We wish .to thank the police department in helping to
prohibit "beach parties" and in keeping "campers" off the
beaches after closing hours.
