4
28
4
4 Report of the Fire Department
5 1
E
,Y To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Town of Mashpee, Massachusetts
c I hereby submit my report for the year ending December
3
' 31, 1959.
There were sixty-seven calls for assistance during the
j I year. The loss to building or dwelling was very small. The
a z a majority of calls were for flooded oil burners improperly in-
j stalled. I would like to remind the public that only by ob-
taining a permit as required by law they may be sure of get-
ting a safe installation equipped with the necessary safety
> devices for their protection.
I have requested that firemen who have trained and at-
N
rk ;f tended meetings with the welfare of the public in mind, and
given as much as 150 hours of their time training, be paid at
j, the rate of two dollars for the first hour and $1.50 for each
t hour thereafter.
The fire department is definitely not an over paying job.
I
In the past year there was not a man who was paid over
` fifty dollars for fire fighting, and there were only ten who
` !I were paid over fifteen dollars during the year.
y`I Our firemen do not stop to change their clothes when
they are called and many good suits have been ruined. These
r Amen have never complained in any way but feel if a raise
in wages for other labor is granted they should be considered
z
` also
All a call fireman receives from his job is the satisfaction
f of serving the public in every way possible.
t
A f
r(
