i
$ ' 34
e `
d tf i
' Report of the Veterans' Agent
tt
N To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Mashpee, Massachusetts
Dear Sirs:
The following is a report of the Department of Veterans'
Services for the calendar year 1959.
1 When submitting a budget for Veterans' Benefits, the
rlili i agent must of necessity anticipate, as far as possible, the
needs of a community under this program for the coming
year. When arriving at a recommended amount for a budget,
I it is impossible to anticipate unforseen expenditures particu-
larly hospital and medical expenditures.
During the calendar year of 1958, it was necessary to re-
quest additional funds to meet the demands of unforseen
K z hospital and medical expenses. As a result of this, I requested
v an additional $1,000.00 for the year 1959 which brought the
E total appropriation to $5,000.00. Of this amount, there was a
balance of $201.95. Approximately 4217o of this amount was
spent for necessary hospital and medical care.
The only permanent cases that are now being assisted
r are World War I veterans, widows and parents of World War
t I r
,I r II veterans. People in this age bracket naturally are in need
; i of considerable medical care. The only hospital expenditures
were for applicants who would not be eligible for Veterans'
Administration hospital care such as widows and mothers of
veterans. The only assistance given to World War II veterans
and Korean veterans was of an emergency nature. This group
r4 1 of veterans should be commended for their employment
record.
Y J'
t;
