During the
spring of 1959 I purchased for the Town of Mashpee two rotor
j mowers for the use at the Old Indian Cemetery. It was voted
:i in the last regular Town meeting to buy a mower. I then went
' to several places around the Cape where I found I could pur-
chase two mowers for the money that was appropriated for
this department. However with this additional machinery and
i
the amount of money appropriated for this department, there
were no funds provided for maintenance; therefore it cut
t down on the work at the cemetery. In the 1960 budget I have
asked for a small amount of money to cover the cost of main-
tenance of these machines.
c {
t; Early in the fall of 1959 vandalism was reported at the Old
j' Indian Cemetery. Twenty-one large and small monuments
were overturned. I was asked by some of the lot owners to get
an estimate from different monument companies. I did .get
` h{ estimates. I also talked to- Mr. Harold Nickerson of the Nick-
( F Ft 4q
erson Funeral Home. He then sent Mr. Joseph Sylvia who is
r
i Hal
Vii., , , '' also from the Nickerson Funeral Home, and in less than one
week the monuments were placed in their original position.
In behalf of the families,I would like at this time to thank
the Nickerson Funeral Home of Bourne, Sandwich and San-
' tuit for the work they did in replacing these stones which was
s Y of no cost to the families affected.
Respectfully submitted,
r
ELMONT B. TOBEY,
_ ; Superintendent
