Wildfire Planning EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATISTICS Wildfire mitigation projects continue in the Mashpee National Wildlife Refuge. The use of RESPONSE DESCRIPTION 2013 2014 prescription fire for habitat restoration and fire fuels reduction was accomplished during the season on U.S. FIRES Fish and Wildlife property near Great Hay Road and Private Dwellings 15 24 Amy Brown Road. Many have commented on the Apartments 2 5 wide fuel break constructed on the U.S. Fish and Hotels &Motels 0 0 Wildlife property along Great Oak Road. These break All Other Residential 0 0 designs are instrumental in controlling fires on that Total Residential Fires 17 29 property which could spread towards property in the New Seabury area. The planned prescription bum Public Assembly 0 0 behind the Wampanoag government building was also Schools &Colleges 0 0 completed by a private contractor. All of these planned Health Care& Penal Institutions 0 0 prescription bums are accomplished with the existing Stores&Offices 0 1 j partnership of U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Industry,Utility,Defense, Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Labs& Manufacturing 0 0 Recreation, Massachusetts Fish and Wildlife, Orenda Storage in Structures 0 2 Wildlife Land Trust,and the Town of Mashpee. Other Structures 1 2 Total Structure Fires 17 34 The Future There will be a different direction in operations Fires in Highway Vehicles 4 4 with respect to Wild Land Firefighting, as a new type Fire in Other Vehicles 1 0 of firefighting apparatus is scheduled to arrive before Fires Outside of Structures,Not Vehicles 10 6 the start of the wildfire season. This vehicle, along Fires in Brush,Grass &Wildland 12 6 with our tactics, will be centered on structural Fires in Rubbish 9 2 protection and a safer way to intercede with any fires, All Other Fires 1 2 utilizing natural or manmade barriers.
