KENNETH C. COOMBS SCHOOL <br /> With a new school year came two new administrators; Donna Zaeske, Principal and Kimberley <br /> Richards, Assistant Principal. <br /> School Council Members PTO Members <br /> Donna Zaeske, Principal Stacy Cooper, President <br /> Kim Richards, Assistant Principal Kristen Hutchenrider, Vice President <br /> Patti Kenny, Kim Palmer, Liz Wilber; teachers Elaine Sweeney, Treasurer <br /> Barbara Cotton, Dan O'Neill, Liz Hendricks,parents Dan O'Neill, Secretary <br /> Michelle Binette, Corresponding Secretary <br /> Alex Wilkinson, Davien Gould, Nancy <br /> Kerrigan, KCC staff members <br /> School Council members focused on school management of educational goals, overview of <br /> budget proposals, revising the parent/student handbook and addressing academic achievement of <br /> the School Improvement Plan. <br /> PTO committee and members continued to be an integral part of the Coombs School family <br /> providing support to staff and students during the school year. The PTO provided classroom <br /> supplies to supplement language arts and science curriculums, they sponsored the week-long <br /> Coastal Resource Van project, several Museum of Science grade-level assemblies, and they <br /> participated in fundraisers such as the very successful Monte Carlo Night, UP Ceasar's Pizza, j <br /> Box Tops for Education, Kash for Kids Cartridge Recycling fundraiser and the Pocket Change <br /> fundraiser to name a few. In addition, PTO also sponsored the very successful Giving Tree event <br /> and the St. Patrick's Day Dance. We are most grateful for their support of Staff Appreciation in <br /> May when the PTO sponsored breakfast and lunch for all Coombs staff. We are especially <br /> indebted to the PTO for their unending support of the Coombs School final phase of a three- <br /> phase, $65,000 playground which finally came to fruition and completion after 10 years. An <br /> eight-bay swing set and new fencing was added to the KCC playground. The PTO is a very <br /> important part of the Coombs School and we are thankful for their continued and tireless support. <br /> Volunteers at Coombs have had a meaningful, positive impact on the school community. They have <br /> run many programs such as the Art History classes, Spanish with Mrs. Cortez, created our very <br /> impressive "Coombs in Bloom" school grounds beautification program, assisted with the annual <br /> Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser, helped at Field Day, lent a hand at"Let's Fly a Kite Day", worked <br /> with the artist-in-residence to create the breathtaking stained glass panels displayed on the front <br /> windows, taught enrichment programs, and supported teachers in the classroom as well as on field j <br /> trips and even at home! Our volunteers are an essential part of our school day and we are forever <br /> grateful for all their support! <br /> i <br /> The Coombs School preschool and kindergarten programs have maintained NAEYC �,yr <br /> accreditation. (National Association for the Education of Young Children) NAEYC <br /> accreditation represents the mark of quality in early childhood education. <br /> To achieve NAEYC accreditation, early childhood education programs volunteer to be measured <br /> against the most robust and rigorous national standards on education, health and safety. NAEYC <br /> accredited programs invest in early childhood education because they believe in the benefits to <br /> children and families.
