MASHPEE PUBLIC SCHOOLS INDIAN EDUCATION PROGRAM <br /> The Indian Education Program in the Mashpee Public School system was developed in 1972 and <br /> is offered through the United States Department of Education Title VII Indian Education <br /> Formula Grant program. <br /> The Indian Education office is based at the Mashpee High School but is out reached to Native <br /> American students in the Kenneth C. Coombs, Quashnet, and Middle Schools. <br /> Our program is comprehensive and focuses on meeting the needs of Native American children <br /> through tutoring and cultural awareness, which will assist Native American children in meeting <br /> required state standards. <br /> Students obtain services by returning the required ED 506 forms establishing their Tribal <br /> Cultural identity through their Tribal Roll status as well as permission forms signed by parents <br /> and/or guardians for program participation. Progress towards the goal of tutoring is measured by <br /> analysis of standard state test scores relating to math and language arts achievement. <br /> Staff for this program may be comprised of a Project Coordinator, a psycho therapist, and tutors <br /> who also possess a cultural awareness of the Native American population. A Parent Committee <br /> iK <br /> may be comprised of a teacher, a certified guidance counselor and parents of Native American <br /> students who oversee the progress and development of the program. <br /> is <br /> In June of 2008, One hundred and forty-five students were serviced and eleven Native American <br /> students graduated from Mashpee High School. <br /> i <br /> I <br /> i <br /> 182 <br />
