36 <br />Veterans' Service Department <br />Honorable Board of Selectmen <br />Mashpee, Massachusetts <br />Gentlemen: <br />The following is a report of the Department of Veterans' <br />Services for the Town of Mashpee for the calendar year 1953. <br />The appropriation for the year 1953 was $3,300.00 and the <br />total expenditures were $2,009.45. Of the total expenditures <br />of $2,009.45, the Commonwealth will reimburse the Town of <br />Mashpee 50% or $1,004.73. This is the maximum amount pos- <br />Bible for the Town of Mashpee to be reimbursed by the Com- <br />y; monwealth. It represents 50% of the expenditures for the <br />year 1953. <br />IPS <br />The only permanent recipients for the year were widows <br />and a totally disabled World War I veteran. Other recipients <br />were aided from time to time because of sickness or unem- <br />I; ployment. All these cases were of a temporary nature. <br />Two veterans were placed in Veterans' Administration <br />Hospitals which relieved the Town of additional expense. <br />I; Many other veterans and their dependents were assisted <br />by me in problems relating to veterans' affairs other than <br />4 <br />Veterans' Benefits. These services included assisting veter- <br />I ;' ans on insurance problems, mustering out pay, disability <br />claims, securing discharge papers for those who had lost the <br />original, rehabilitation, schooling, Massachusetts State bonus, <br />it <br />i <br />I
