38
Report of the Highway Surveyor
To the Honorable Board of Selectmen
Mashpee, Massachusetts
I herewith submit my annual report as Highway Surveyor
for the year ending December 31, 1953.
Under Chapter 90, the work on Great Neck Road was con-
tinued and a mixed-in-place surface constructed for a dis-
tance of 2,900 feet from the end of the-1952 work, which
brings this surface up to a point 3,400 feet from the junction
of Red Brook, Popponesset and Great Neck Roads. It is
planned to continue this work Northerly towards Pine Tree
corner with the 1954 allotment.
Under Chapter 81, general maintenance, graveling and
I' surface treatments done as far as funds were available.
Graveling was done on Orchard Road, so that the entire
length has had gravel applied to it. On request of the Pop-
ponesset Beach Association to improve the sight distance and
width of Popponesset Road, a large amount of work was done
III=F and it is hoped to complete this work in the 1954 season.
Surface treatments were applied to Lakeside Avenue and
sections of Meeting House, Old Mill, Great Neck, Red Brook
I.
ar and Popponesset Roads. The volume of traffic from Route
A f.28 to the Popponesset colony and South Cape Beach'con-
Y. tinues to cause heavy maintenance on Red Brook and Great
Neck Roads.
The Town general appropriation was used in various
I.; ways to supplement the State funds.
