4 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> November 16, 2020 <br /> APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br /> Public Hearin: Tax Classification Hearing: (continued) <br /> Selectman David W. Weeden was sympathetic to those who live and struggle in Mashpee. It was suggested the <br /> Board consider both a residential and commercial exemption. This is a time of need and there can be difficulties <br /> living on Cape Cod when second home owners can easily afford to live in Mashpee. With an adequate lead time it <br /> is the right direction for our residents and for small businesses. <br /> It was also recommended the Finance Committee be consulted with respect to this regard. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to close the Public Hearing. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Sherman. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Sherman,yes <br /> Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Weeden,yes Opposed, none <br /> Motion made by Selectman Sherman to move that the Town of Mashpee adopt a Tax Rate Factor of 111" <br /> for all classes of property with no discount for Open Space, no Residential Exemption and no Small <br /> Commercial Exemption. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara. <br /> VOTE: 3-2. Motion carries. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Sherman,yes <br /> Selectman Gottlieb, no Selectman Weeden, no Opposed, (2) <br /> Motion made by Selectman Gottlieb to support the inclusion of a necessary article for the implementation <br /> of a Residential Exemption in FY2022. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Sherman. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Sherman,yes <br /> Selectman Gottlieb,yes Selectman Weeden,yes Opposed, none <br /> The Director of Assessing was requested to obtain examples of towns with existing residential exemptions; <br /> Barnstable, Orleans, Provincetown, Truro and Wellfleet as well as Boston and Somerville for additional review. <br />
