l
catch basins and discharges through a pipe within
retention area that has been built on the south- side f
Route 2 .
Route 130 in Barnstable, loo-king towards Stratford
Ponds, shows four catch ba-sins, one of which allows water to
overflow. There is- a small amount of sediment around the
bas-in.; a small amount that travels towards the Santuit
River.
The only recourse Mashp e has would be to begin to
collect the runoff beyond Stratford Ponds from the
highpoint and intercept and direct it back -i .to the ground.
antuit River at old mill Road on the Ma hpee side
appears- to be in good condition. This area probably has
the most impact for the Santu.it River on both sides of the
road. There are paved waterways on .both sides very close
to the river. The river is a narrow channel with wetlands
on both skies before going into the higher vegetated area .
There are some natural filtering mechanisms in the form of
the wetland area that- border the river on both sides..
There is a subdivision on the Barnstable side that
contributes a portion of t 'e runoff towards the San uit
River.
There is a pipe culvert on the north side of old Mill
Road. The sediment in this area washes directly towards
the river. The south side of the river shows an old stone
culvert.
uInac uisset Avenue at the Mashpee River Woodland's at
Route 28 shows catch basins, guardrails, and behind the
wooded area a large detention area where m st of the runoff
accumulates . The catch basin grates are high capacity,
capable of taking a lot of water. There is no evidence of
erosion in this area.
Quinaquisset Avenue east from the Route 2
intersection shows the location of pared waterways that
dump off to the south side of the road, an area h re there
is some damage at the bank and walkway. The roadway is
pitched; the runoff goes directly toward the paved
waterways .
6
