Motion to schedule <br /> this matter of October 11 1997 at 7 . 15 p.m. ; which Motion was <br /> seconded by John Kuchinsk1 and so voted unanimously. <br /> Board Members Martine Meijering and Robert Covoni have <br /> �w <br /> both resigned from the Board effective this date. <br /> Mashpee Comprehensive Plani�, <br /> Health and. Human Services Element <br /> Eric Smith made the following presentation: E <br /> Inventories of Existing Services Agencies funded by the <br /> Town. visiting Nurses Association being the largest, received <br /> approximately forty (4 0%) percent of the funds. Approximately Ili' <br /> Pp Y <br /> $75, 635 . 00 was allocated last year at Town Meeting. Fifty three <br /> hundred (5, 300) services are rendered during the calendar year. <br /> Approximately half of the residents in Town utilize the Human ■ <br /> Services offered. A number of services are offered through the <br /> Adult Basic Education Services, a literacy program. English as <br /> a Second Language is also offered. Leisure Services offers the <br /> Mashpee Youth center at the High School. <br /> Analysis Alcoholism and Drug Abuse: According to a report <br /> conducted by the community Partnership to Reduce Substance Abuse, <br /> Mashpee and the Cape have a higher rate of liquor licenses per <br /> capita than the State. Arrest rates for driving under the <br /> influence are twice as high compared to the State. More <br /> residents of Town are attending Narcotics/Alcohol Anonymous <br /> Meeting compared to the State rate, but less than the Cape rate.`' <br /> Martine Meijering inquired as to how these figures <br /> � g � gores were <br /> compiled; Eric answered they compiled iled on an annual basis . <br /> p <br /> Martine stated that drug/alcohol abuse is higher on the Cape <br /> duringthe winter months due in <br /> part, to higher unemployment <br /> rates . Eric stated that three hundred, sixty (3 6 0) of the <br /> services rendered are for alcohol/drug abuse. <br /> The DARE Prevention Program is offered to approximately one <br /> thousand (1, 0o0) students each year. Mashpee Action Committee <br /> Providing Alternatives to Change (MACP.AC) being an extension to ��■. <br /> the DARE Program. a ' <br /> Martine Meijering suggested prevention programs directed to <br /> adults be made available. <br /> 9- <br /> I <br />
