Board member <br /> applications were submitted over the course of the next <br /> To the honorable Board of Selectmen and the few months and seven people were officially appointed <br /> Citizens of the Town of Mashpee: on August 6,2018 to staggered terms covering the next <br /> three years. <br /> The Mashpee Community Garden Advisory <br /> Committee(MCGAC)was established by the Town of ACTIVITIES <br /> Mashpee Board of Selectmen on May 21, 2018 to Board of Directors meetings are open to the <br /> advise and assist the Town with respect to the creation, public and are held the third Wednesday of every <br /> maintenance, and improvement of the Mashpee month. Meetings commenced in mid-August. <br /> Community Garden located off 400 Main Street(Route <br /> 130), which property is owned by the Town of The first priority of business was a massive clean- <br /> Mashpee and is under the jurisdiction of the Mashpee up of the community garden site and its 20 individual <br /> Historic District Commission,as well as various other garden beds,along with preliminary preparation for the <br /> Town-owned properties deemed to be suitable by the 2019 gardening season. <br /> Town for garden use/improvements including,but not <br /> limited to, areas within the layouts of Town ways <br /> (collectively"Garden Sites"). <br /> The MCGAC's charge is to work in conjunction <br /> with Town officers/agencies and other interested <br /> organizations/individuals to: <br /> a) improve and enhance the value and appearance :yx <br /> of the Community Garden and other Garden <br /> Sites; <br /> b) create a space and an opportunity for individuals, <br /> children, families and community organizations <br /> to cultivate gardens for food and flowers and to <br /> learn about growing fresh vegetables; and <br /> c) provide agricultural/horticultural educational <br /> programs,activities,and other related community <br /> benefits. <br /> HISTORY <br /> The Mashpee Community Garden was first <br /> organized in the mid-2000's under Town auspices. <br /> Over the years it had varying success attracting <br /> gardeners and experienced some maintenance and <br /> other management issues. It has not been actively <br /> gardened in recent years. The Mashpee Environmental The Board submitted a proposal for 2019 funding <br /> Commission(MEC)took up the cause in 2018 and met of a Community Garden Restoration Plan to the Town <br /> with Town officials to discuss how the community of Mashpee's Community Preservation Committee in <br /> garden might best be revitalized and assured success. the fall of 2018.Upon review,the Committee approved <br /> After discussion of several ideas, the Town Manager the project for inclusion in the May 2019 Town Warrant <br /> suggested to MEC representatives that a Mashpee that will be considered at the May 2019 Town Meeting. <br /> Community Garden Advisory Committee be <br /> 107 <br />
