School -Aged Programs: We continue to offer a
<br />wealth of programs and activities for youth ages 3-14.
<br />Our Extended Day programs have been extremely
<br />successful and, more importantly, invaluable to our
<br />local families as we provide a much needed service for
<br />their children. This year, we made the necessary
<br />adjustments to accommodate the new school start times
<br />that took effect for the 2019 — 20 school year. We
<br />provide services to approximately 97 families
<br />representing and enrollment of 112 students. Our
<br />Kindergarten through 2nd grade program is held at the
<br />KC Coombs School. Our Extended Day program for
<br />students in grades 3-6 is held at the Quashnet School.
<br />These programs continue to meet and exceed licensing
<br />requirements set forth by the Commonwealth of
<br />Massachusetts Department of Early Education and
<br />Care. Our program continues to pursue the necessary
<br />qualifications to attain the third highest Quality Rating
<br />score possible for programs such as ours. Our program
<br />will be one of the first for the Cape Cod and Islands
<br />District to achieve this distinction.
<br />The Mashpee Summer Day Camp offers a fully
<br />comprehensive Summer Day Camp experience for
<br />children grades Pre — Kindergarten to 8th grade. The
<br />program runs for eight weeks and provides parents with
<br />quality, affordable care Monday through Friday from
<br />7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. In the summer of 2019, we
<br />enrolled a record number of 196 campers per week-
<br />long session, including the addition of a middle -school
<br />aged group. The summer of 2019 marked the sixth year
<br />of our Counselor in Training (CIT) program for
<br />students in grades 7-9. This year's class of 16 CIT's
<br />gained insightful, practical experience in the care and
<br />education of young children. Some members of our
<br />2019 CIT class will continue on to become Junior
<br />Camp Counselors for the summer 2020 program.
<br />Youth after -school and summer programs:
<br />This year our youth after -school and summer programs
<br />included Youth Tennis & Golf, Track & Field, Indoor
<br />Soccer & Basketball recreational league, American
<br />Red Cross Certified Babysitter's Course, Basketball
<br />Shills Camp, Swim Lessons, Archery, Junior Police
<br />Academy, Arts & Crafts, Clamming, Harry Potter
<br />themed classes, Kayaking and Stand-up Paddle -
<br />boarding, Boating Safety classes, Sailing lessons and
<br />Karate. We continue to explore programming
<br />opportunities to compliment and expand other
<br />programs offered in our community.
<br />Special events: Our annual, family -friendly,
<br />Recreation Department special events included the
<br />Valentine's Dance, Ninja Warriors Night, Easter Egg
<br />Hunt, Tennis Play -day for youth and adults, Memorial
<br />Day Ceremony, Youth Fishing Derby, Veteran's Day
<br />Ceremony and the Holiday Tree Lighting. Through
<br />shared funding with the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod,
<br />we hosted the fifth summer of the Mashpee Summer
<br />Concert Series in the Mashpee Community Park during
<br />the months of July and August. The fall of 2019
<br />marked the first ever Pickleball Tournament held at the
<br />Mashpee Pickleball Park. Mashpee Recreation, in
<br />conjunction with the Mashpee Police Department,
<br />hosted a fund-raiser Pickleball Tournament for the
<br />benefit of the Mashpee Police Relief Fund. It was a
<br />great success and directly benefited the families and
<br />children of our community.
<br />Adult Programs: This year our adult programs
<br />included Tennis, Golf lessons, Summer Golf League,
<br />Adult Fitness Programs, Craft Programs, Clamming,
<br />Adult Co-ed Basketball, and Pickleball. The summer
<br />of 2019 saw unprecedented use of the 8-court, Mashpee
<br />Pickleball Park. In addition to Recreation run programs
<br />and open play, we offered a series of lessons for
<br />beginners through tournament level players. As with
<br />our youth programming, we strive to provide and
<br />expand programs that are accessible, affordable, and
<br />responsive to the needs of our citizenry.
<br />SPECIAL EVENTS
<br />Our 32nd annual Mashpee/Cape Cod Super Swim
<br />race, the only open water swimming event on Cape
<br />Cod, was held at John's Pond on June 29th. An
<br />increase over recent years, approximately 190 athletes
<br />registered for this year's event. The event draws
<br />swimmers of all ages ranging from eight years old to
<br />those in their mid -eighties. The 1/2 mile, I mile and 3.1
<br />mile swims are highlighted by a family picnic
<br />afterwards; this draws many swimmers from off Cape
<br />each year. We continue to collaborate with Streamline
<br />Events which provides access to a larger number of
<br />athletes and a more efficient system for scoring, timing,
<br />and results.
<br />Our annual 5K Woodland Run, held in July, is a
<br />community fundraiser in honor of the late Rhiannon
<br />McCuish. This year there were one hundred and sixty-
<br />two registrations and one hundred and thirty finishers
<br />who came out to support this effort and Rhiannon's
<br />family. Proceeds from this event help to offset fees for
<br />
