3
Mashpee Select Board
Minutes
November 20, 2023
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Discussion and Possible Vote onw_Granting an Abatement of Betterment Assessment yfor re21 Cedar Street:
David G. Peck:
The Mashpee Select Board met with David G. Peck to review his request for an abatement at 21 Cedar
Street. The betterment amount assessed is $19,102.67. This can be paid in full or divided into any
number of equal parts, not exceeding twenty years. The Cedar Street property is an unimproved wooded
lot adjacent to the Chestnut Street property owned by Mr. Peck.
The two assessments amount to $38,205.34. Mr. Peck stated he is on a fixed income and this cost
represents an enormous expense and undue burden. Maintaining the land in its open state gives relief
from the density of the neighborhood development.
Discussion followed with respect to the road conversion from private to public and the improvements
required to bring the road to Town standards. There is concern with respect to setting precedent. If the
Select Board approved the abatement, the Town would be required to pay the $19,102.67 assessment.
Motion made by Selectman Sherman to deny the Abatement of Betterment Assessment on
property located at 21 Cedar Street, Mashpee.
Motion seconded by Selectman O'Hara.
VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0.
Roll Call Vote: Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman O'Hara, yes Selectman Sherman, yes
Selectman Weeden, yes Selectman Wyman -Colombo, yes Opposed, none
Discussion and Approval of the Followin _Temnora n.
