u <br />Mashpee Select Board <br />Minutes <br />January 22, 2024 <br />APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br />Discussion and Apl foyal of Select „Board.PolicyM #082 w- Flag Policy' <br />Town Manager Rodney C. Collins presented Flag Policy No. 082 to the Select Board for review and approval. <br />Policy No. 82 is intended to address flags allowed to be flown on the Town of Mashpee flag poles. In accord <br />with procedures of the Flag Policy, the following is included as an expression of the town's government speech; <br />1. The official flag of the United States of America. <br />2. The official flag of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. <br />3. The official flag of the Town of Mashpee. <br />4. The official flag of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe. <br />5. The official MIA -POW flag may be flown, with prior approval of the Select Board and/or Town <br />Manager, on the Town -owned flagpole at Veterans Park. <br />As clearly stated, there are (5) recognized flags. No other flags shall be allowed to be flown on Town -owned <br />flag poles. There is no intent to remove any flag that is currently flying. <br />It was requested the Select Board make a conscious effort to accommodate the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe <br />flag. If there are (3) poles, the Tribal flag would be raised as it is customarily flown. <br />The Select Board agreed to amend the draft under section IV. Standards; <br />A. Federal, State and Local Flags <br />1. To add language to the last sentence, to read: Flag poles that exist will continue to accommodate the <br />Mashpee Wampanoag flag. <br />B. Flags at Half -Staff <br />To Add 5. Where there is a Tribal flag, the Tribal Chair or a designee shall be authorized to notify the Town. <br />It was agreed if additional adoptions are recommended for Policy No. 082 would be considered later. <br />Motion made by Selectman Sherman to adopt Select Board Policy No. 082 as amended. <br />Motion seconded by Selectman Wyman -Colombo. <br />VOTE:5-0. Unanimous. <br />Roll Call Vote: <br />Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman O'Hara, yes Selectman Sherman, yes <br />Selectman Weeden, yes Selectman Wyman -Colombo, yes Opposed, none <br />
