4
Select Board
Minutes
August 12, 2024
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Discussion Relative „to Regulation25,
Conservation Agent Drew McManus Conservation Commission Chair Paul „Colombo: (continued)
For clarity, Selectman Weeden indicated at the last meeting there were comments made. The public has
the right to voice their opinion and be a part of the process. In his opinion, comment should have been
done on an individual basis and not from the homeowners association. It was advised the Select Board
request the Coastal Zone Management (CZM) conduct a presentation in Mashpee on flood zones and
coastal changes.
..s "........ .p  October Town Meeting;
Discussion wo Mash _ee Cares School Committee Article or
p i ilyr Committee
J„Marie wStevenson „Chan Mash ee Inclusion & Divers,
Don M ers, Chair School Committee;
J. Marie Stevenson, Chair of the Mashpee Inclusion & Diversity Committee (MIDC) was in attendance
with Don Myers, Chair of the School Committee to discuss the October Town Meeting article submitted
by the School Commission to establish a Mashpee Cares Town Committee.
The makeup of the committee is recommended for (9) members. "The creation of this committee would
help to encourage work with Town Officials to recommend policies and procedures if an incident were to
occur. Trainings, policies, and procedures would hopefully slow and stop the spread of a climate and.
culture that does not align with the values of the Town of Mashpee.
Don Myers indicated that this matter warrants further discussion. The article was submitted to meet the
deadline for the submission of articles with the understanding there would be a subsequent discussion.
At their August meeting the School Committee voted to postpone the submission to the May Town
Meeting. The deadline for articles for the May warrant is February 10, 2025.
It was noted the Town created a former Mashpee Cares team that merged into Health and Human
Services. From the School Committee's perspective there is a need for a more proactive response team
with visibility in the community.
Ms. Stevenson, Chair of the MIDC indicated this is a community issue and there is a need to work
together.
The Select Board and Town Managers commended the MIDC for their work. It was recommended the
objective, purpose, roles and responsibilities be furthered defined, staff resources as required be noted to
ensure the effectiveness of this objective.
