Select Board <br />Minutes <br />October 7, 2024 <br />APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS <br />PresenUtion on. joint Base Qap�.-Qod,, j3rief'n. : Base Conimanders: <br />The Select Board met with the Joint Base Cape Cod Cornnianders, an annualjoint oversight group briefing <br />involving the military orE..,,anizations; the Massachusetts National Guard, -Anily National Guard, the Air National <br />Guard, 1J.S. Space'Force arid U.S. Coast Guard, <br />The 1.02M Intelligence Wing of the Air National Guard is cornprised ofapproximately 1,200 Airmen spread across <br />five groups. This organization of the military is recognized worldwide as the.Air Force's premier Intelligence <br />Whig. The Cape Cod Space Force Station is North Arrii.erica's s(-.).le East Coast early warning radar for missile <br />w,wnitig, missile def.ense and space domairi awareness. <br />The U.S. Coast Guard covers 2,000 miles of shorelinie ftoni. the U..& Canadian border to northern New Jersey, and <br />Lip, to 1,300 miles offshore. The Massachusetts Mational Guard and Army National Guard operates, manages, and <br />administers the Gaffison'I"raining site at Camp Edwards Ileadquarters. I'his includes the En,v,ironmen.tal.Ill ,ekidiiii.ess <br />Center, and the Barnstable Dispatch Center, <br />LJnder consideration is the 1"ature use of land owned by the Commonwealfl-i which is leased and licensed to military <br />agencies. Use of JBCC fbr other military service including new and additioria.l. military tii.ousing as well as <br />composting facilities is under consideration. with other initiatives. Inibmiation as itbecornes available would be <br />forwarded to the respective Select Boards (Yf the f.bur L-Tpper (.,'a:pe Counnur'dties. <br />With regards to the protection of the gape's sole source aqLdfler as it relates to the proposed multi -gun. range it was <br />disclosed. the funding intended f.or au's project exj..)h-ea.l at the end of September. Also included is the fish passage restoratiari project at John's Pond on the Quashnet <br />River upstrearn. of the fon-ner bogs and the restoration. of the upper portions of the Maslipee River. <br />
