Town of Mashpee <br />16 Great Neck Rd North <br />Mashpee, MA 02649 <br />Conservation Commission <br />6-26-2024 <br />TO: Arden Russell <br />Chair of the Mashpee Community Preservation Act Committee <br />FROM: Daniel Kent <br />Assistant Conservation Agent <br />Town of Mashpee <br />RE: Environmental Quality Site Assessments: <br />475 Nathan Ellis Highway <br />Dear Arden, <br />The following is a report on the existing conditions and environmental assessment of 475 <br />Nathan Ellis Highway that is being considered for acquisition/purchase by the Town of <br />Mashpee for open space using Community Preservation Act funding. <br />Total Acreage of all 9 lots: 8.1 acres <br />Date of site visit: 6-20-24 <br />Weather: Sunny, 79 degrees. No wind <br />Existing Vegetation: <br />Overstory composition- Pitch Pine (Pinus rigida); White Pine (Pines strobus); Black Oak <br />(Quercus Velotina); White Oak (Quercus albs); Red Maple (Acerrubrum); Swamp White Oak <br />(Quercus bicolor); White Birch (Betula papyrifera). <br />Midstory composition- Sassafras (Sassafras albidum), Black cherry (Prunus serotina); Black <br />Willow (Salixnigra); emergent beech, white pine, pitch pine, black and white oaks. <br />Shrub/understory- Summersweet (Clethra alnifolia); Highbush Blueberry (Vaccinium <br />corymbosum); Winterberry Holly (Ilex verticillata), Sassafras (Sassafras albidum); Arrowwood <br />(Viburnum dentatum); Autumn Olive Elaeagnus umbellate) along driveways edges. <br />Groundcover- Greenbriar (Smilax); Lady Fern (Athyrium filix); Sarsaparilla (Smilax); Poison Ivy <br />(Toxicondron radicans); Ostrich Fern (Matteuccia struthiopteris); Wild Grape (Vitis vinifera); <br />i Virginia Creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia); various species of native grasses and <br />wildflowers (limited to areas around dwelling/parking area & edge of sandy beach) <br />
