Town of Mashpee Sewer Commission
07
16 Great Neck Road North
Mashpee, MA 02649
The Chair gave a shout out to APCC and what they've been able to do to protect our aquifer and stop the
multipurpose gun range and the threats it presents to our aquifer. There was general discussion among
the Commission on this topic.
The Chair also gave another shout out to the Cape and Islands Water Protection Fund. They played a large
part in the Dennis Wastewater Management Plan in lowering their costs as they move forward with their
plan.
The Chair discussed the construction happening of Lake Avenue and the small pond near the herring run.
This is another great example of different groups working together. The groups working together on this
project are the Town, APCC, the Wompanoag Tribe, Natural Resources and Conservation, and all the
volunteers.
The Chair asked that everyone keep their eye on the Management Plan for Mashpee Wakeby Pond and
that the Plan will be presented by UMass Dartmouth sometime in November.
Wastewater Superintendent Update
Mr. Meader reported that Cape-wide wastewater superintendents/directors formed a group. They're
working to determine how often they'll meet and set their goals such as what are all the Cape towns
going to do with the sludge, staffing and groundwater discharge. These things are effecting all of the
towns. There was a lot of positive information amongst the participants. There were at least seven
towns that were represented.
Mr. Meader provided an update on Policy Review Committee. He stated that they've made great
progress on rules and regulations primarily for the users, contractors and the Town. Once the billing
method and rates have been determined, there will be a billing policy that will need to be written and
approved.
Mr. Meader reported that at the last meeting a question was asked about having a drone flyover the
treatment facility. He stated that Ashley had done some research and found that it's a restricted area,
but not a no fly area. Because it's a restricted area, you need to register your drone with the FAA and
then it will provide you a code so you can fly over the area. This information has been shared with
Mashpee TV.
Mr. Meader brought up the Falmouth Road Pump Station and the fencing issue that was discussed at
the last meeting. He noted that a quote was received and subsequently approved. A fence on the back
side of the property will be installed. This should obstruct visual and noise as they drive through that
open space.
Mr. Meader discussed the correspondence that came up at the last meeting and that he addressed and
streamlined the process with the Executive Assistant.
Website
The Chair reported there's no update at this time, but will continue to work on making updates and
improvements in order to keep residents updated on the overall project.
