prevent these types of problems is with boat washing stations. There are signs
already posted at the fresh water boat ramps in Mashpee highlighting the concerns
and reminding boaters what to look for and how to prevent the transferring of these
aquatic hitchhikers/invasive species. There have been discussions in the past of
having the ramp attendants inform people and hand out fliers, however, the
resources necessary are not available.

Ken Bates suggested we invite Dr. Brian Howes to our next meeting to speak on
invasive species. Rick York asked if Dr. Howes had any references or potential
control methods they could be sent via email.

Harbormaster Report: none

Shellfish Report: Scallop season is open and so far it has not been a very good
season. Only 15 bushels have been harvested so far.
th
The selectmen voted to close an area effective October 11, just inside the mouth of
Great River as part of the quahog propagation program. This area will be closed to
shell fishing but there are no restrictions on boating or swimming. This will be a
quahog seed nursery area enclosed with 1/4inch mesh nets to prevent predators.
The goal is to get the seed to the size of one inch, which will increase the survival
rate and then move them to the family area.
st
November 1 oyster season will open at the Mashpee Neck Landing.

Popponesset Bay /Waquoit Bay report: Lots of boats are still in place. Quite a bit of
fishing activity still going on. Reports of a lot of fish around.

Sewer Committee: Report Plan submitted to Town of Mashpee is available for
review.

Dredging: Ken Bates received a draft notification of the Comprehensive Permit from
Army Corps. It needs to be reviewed in detail. The Army Corps will be requesting
sediment sampling based on our existing locations. They are primarily looking for
grain size and compatibility with the area that we deposit sediment.
There is some interest from residents within the town to pursue dredging interest
with both Mashpee River and Ockway Bay. Some of the same issues will have to be
revisited such as where and how do we dispose the sediment. There is also new
interest by the Commonwealth. We need to find out what these interests are and can
we take advantage of to reduce the cost of either of the two dredges.

nd
A vote to adjourn was made by Paul Zammito, 2 by Bill Taylor at 9:36 AM
